Within two weeks of the announcement of the new symbol for the Indian rupee, a design for a Rs 10 coin surfaced online and was widely circulated. Many, including me, doubted its credibility.

Fake (or maybe rejected) Rs 10 coin design with rupee symbol

Yesterday, I got my hands on the real deal. I had previously posted images of Rs 2 and Rs 5 coins bearing the new rupee symbol designed by D Udaya Kumar.

Here’s a scan of the new ten rupee coin with the new rupee symbol. The metals used are the same as in the previous versions, the outer is of nickel-bronze and the inner circle is made of ferrous steel.
