While it is true that Delhi does get more attention than it actually deserves, but then many astounding things happen in the nation’s capital that forces us to stand up and take notice. Today’s momentous election verdict is one such. The upstart Aam Aadmi Party under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal swept away the much fancied BJP that was riding high on its successive recent election successes. Winning 67 seats in a 70-member Assembly is no mean feat.

For me AAP’s victory over BJP in Delhi has many parallels to India, under Sourav Ganguly beating the seemingly unbeatable Australia at that momentous Eden Gardens Test back in 2001.

But at the same time I feel that such an overwhelming majority isn’t always healthy. Having a substantial opposition is important. But then this is what the Dilliwalas have chosen for themselves.

Here’s an unofficial Google doodle to mark AAP’s win.
